Classical. Jazz. Gypsy. Latin and Electric - my music embraces all styles. That's the result of my classical training at the Schola Musica, Wellington, New Zealand, and the Trinity College, London.

Right now, I'm a member of the Vector Wellington Orchestra and I also freelance as a professional performer. You can ask me to perform solo on the violin, with a string quartert or the Elena and Simply Fantastic Band. So go ahead and ask me. I'm happy to help you make your event unique.

My music and Me

Music is my passion. The love of music is global - it cuts across cultural and ethnic boundaries. That's just what I aim to do with the music I play, as a solo violinist, as a group performer and as a role model for young Maori.

I get so much from classical music. I want to share it with more young Maori.

Just listen to the music on my new CD. Elena. It's unique combination of evocative Maori waiata, stirring European and sensual Latin influences. I hope it will inspire Maori to get involved with classical music and encourage mainstream classical fans to value the whole music heritage of Aotearoa.

I'm working on projects to combine Kapa Haka and classical music with arrangements that will appeal to young people and encourage them to extend their musical knowledge and abilities. I visit schools, Kohanga and marae to perform stories using the violin to express characters and emotions, and to give concerts in classical and modern music.

It's also in my game plan to provide quality musical material for Maori radio stations, shops and the media. That's all part of encouraging young Maori to perform in Te reo Maori and to support and sustain the Maori culture in an ever-changing world.
